To find paid portfolio opportunities in the social sector you need to dig around. We have a dedicated page with ideas for you to consider. If you are a social sector organisation and want to manage your own recruitment of a consultant, interim, mentor, coach or adviser, or have a part-time role that would be suitable for someone who has a portfolio career, you can also post your vacancy on our site - please email us via this link.

We also include ideas from other sectors. There are a growing number of websites dedicated to the person in search of flexible, freelance or portfolio roles, including Fiverr, PeoplePerHour and Timewise. This work may be outside of the social sector, but lessons can be learnt.

Pro Bono Opportunities

Uniquely, the social sector relies on significant numbers of volunteers to get its work done and these provide opportunities for what we call intelligent volunteering - volunteering roles for people with real expertise and insights to bring to social sector organisations and causes. In our experience, the most effective volunteering is when both parties - the volunteer and the social sector organisation - are benefiting. We encourage individuals to seek out volunteering roles that will add something to their personal development - it is not just about giving something back. There is nothing wrong in you getting something of benefit, but you do need to work out what this will be. Advice on how you do this can be found in our career transition section.

We want to encourage portfolio careerists in the social sector to provide their clients with all the required skills - if you have a project which contains elements that are outside your skills and competencies, we want to work with you to find someone who can help you fill that gap.
