Intelligent Volunteering
Use your time intelligently
Since 2004, when we founded Primetimers, we have been developing innovative ways of bringing talented people into the charity and social sector. We have considerable experience to share to help volunteers, newcomers to the sector, sector swappers and social entrepreneurs find impactful ways of maximising their skills and time commitments.
Our guiding principle has been to find win:wins for the individual and for the organisations in the sector.
We have learning to share on the shape and dynamics of the UK social sector, on career transitions into the social sector and how to get started on a new career in the social sector.
Consider doing some skilled and impactful volunteering
As a Foundation we strongly favour projects that use skilled volunteers. Examples include the volunteer mentors who support refugees into meaningful employment, and those volunteers who want to help young social changemakers in secondary schools to develop creative ways of tackling issues that are of direct concern to them such as racial stereotyping, global conflicts, misogyny and mental health.
Find out what makes the sector tick
Look at how the sector is governed. Consider how the sector measures its impact. Research where money comes from to fund the work of the sector. Try and understand the culture, its probably different from what you are used to. Compare the role of small versus large charities.
